Finding elements in organic compounds thru different tests?
Question by Kicks007: Finding elements in organic compounds thru different tests?
Help! Can you help me with these questions:
1) What is the chemical reaction involved in the test for carbon when Ethanol is ignited and a glass tubing dipped in limewater and placed over the flame? Plese provide chemical equation.
2)How is hydrogen detected in the test for carbon (refer to #1)
3) What is the gas evolved in the test for nitrogen when a pinch of urea and a small amount of soda lime is placed in a dry test tube and heated. This was then exposed to a litmus paper where the paper turned from blue to red. Please provide chemical equation.
4)Why was there a change in color of the litmus paper in the test for nitrogen (see #3)
5)What element is responsible for the cloudy/turbid sol’tn in the AgNO3 test when CHCl3 with HNO3 is boiled and AgNO3 is added to the solution?
6)What is the chemical composition of the precipitate formed in the test for sulfur if NaOH and PbAC2 is added to albumin and boiled over a water bath? Please provide equation and a worded explanation. Thanks!
