I am building a green house and want to know a way to keep it warm during the winter with out useing elect.?

I was told you can use a black trash can to absorb heat during the day and releaseit at night. I live in the central Arkansas area were it is cold only about three months out of the year.

  • Hi
I read where you can use black plastic barrels filled with water as legs for your plant tables. The barrels will absorb the heat during the day releasing it at night. Also add bubble wrap to the walls for extra energy effecienty. Have fun, I love my greenhouse!!

  • Yep, that will work, but put a cover over the top of the greenhouse at night to slow heat loss.

  • A black barrell full of water will heat up in the day and release the heat during the night.’But here in tennessee this won’t work very well because
it might go a month with no sunshine!

  • You want to review your building plans so that your greenhouse gets full afternoon sun. Visit some local nurseries and ask questions regarding their building materials, location, etc…
Insulation is very important as well. You may be able to briefly use a space heater while you’re in the greenhouse, just to add some warmth.
    Have fun…

  • Have you thought about solar heat. Ck into that like houses.. We always had as fan that blows heat with gas threw -out our green houise when we grew
tomatoes and plants . Had a dirt floor. If turned low works great, and now use it in our home since we moved when needed. Pem
