  • Described as almost as good as a brownie, I had expectations for a superb bar. And this one is way too far from tasting like brownie or being tasty to start with.

  • I tried several of these bars, but I had to hold my breath to take a bite — they smell terrible! Like vinegar or something. Most unpleasant. The taste isn’t bad, but it ain’t a chocolate brownie, I don’t care what any of the other reviews say!

  • Safety Information

Allergy Statement: This product is manufactured in a facility that processes foods that may contain peanuts, tree nuts, soy, dairy, wheat, or eggs. Product contains walnuts, almonds, and cashews. May contain pieces of nuts, shells or pits.

For those of us who have celiac disease (gluten problems) or wheat allergy the cross contamination issue is very real. The warning says it is created in a facility that processes wheat and other common allergens.

It looks good and sounds great until you read or notice the allergy warning. I just wanted to emphasize the cross contamination issue which is serious. That one point does not make it gluten free.

  • I got a box of ChololateBrownie, and they are ok, but too sweet for my taste. I can tell there is a lot of sweetener, which I guess is agave nectar (also called agave syrup).

If you think that agave nectar is much better than sugar, think again. I looked it up and found that it is processed (not raw), it’s somewhat addictive because it is too sweet (sweeter than sugar), it’s been known to be mixed with corn syrup when imported from Mexico (not saying this is the case), and it is low glycemic for the wrong reason. Wrong reason means that it is 90% of fructose and 10% of glucose, which is very close to high fructose corn syrup. This high fructose concentration is not natural and is associated with all kinds of problems. I am not saying that it is as bad as refined sugar, but you should not necessarily accept it as a healthy alternative.

I still gave this bar 3 stars because it tastes pretty good, but personally I prefer jocalat by larabar. It doesn’t seem to contain any syrup and is also cheaper. The taste is a little bit more natural to me.

  • I purchased a case of the chocolate and a case of the cherry. The cherry bars are WONDERFUL and I highly recommend them. The chocolate bars are horrid. There is a chemical smell and chemical taste coming from these bars which is troubling because they are supposed to be organic. Not sure if they are past the expiration date (just received them a few days ago) but its not something I can risk giving to my kids. Amazon will not let you return any food products (even if they are rotten) so take this in mind before you buy.
